T-Mobile G1: Full Details of the HTC Dream Android Phone
you know what’s wrong with this thing. let’s start with the “name” of it. The T-Mobile G1: HTC Dream Android Phone. SERIOUSLY???????? i am into technology, follow blogs etc… i still can’t figure out what the deal is with this thing. though, after watching a walkthrough video, i realize it’s totally an iphone. sure there are some differences, amazon mp3 store instead of itunes store, full physical keyboard (for those who can’t stop crying about a qwerty pad), etc. but basically, this thing is an iphone with a horrible name. How in the world will the average user figure out what this thing is and understand what it can do for them?? apple was smart, they released a stripped down phone, named everything very succinctly, and made sure even the most rudimentary user could understand what the phone CAN do and reassured them of how easy it would be TO do those things. slowly, apple has added features and capabilities. i am not saying that google won’t accomplish some awesome things with this device, but i am not sure they can do it with the approachability and class of apple.
Agreed. This should NOT have been the launch device. This thing looks like a piece of shit. And despite the open-source community’s LOVE of Linux and what not, this DOES NOT seem very user friendly. This was going to be a very great opportunity for a low cost alternative to the iPhone… but they forget that the iPhone is NOT just a touch screen phone. The hardware is unimportant (though very cool)… the SOFTWARE is so user friendly and obvious to the common man that it has become a HUGE HIT even while being relatively expensive. A “programmer friendly” version of Windows Mobile is not an iPhone killer.
