is it an iPhone?  If so, yeah, it can be fixed for a price… but i have witnessed many a young lady talking an Apple manager into free stuff.  Apparently Apple store managers can do anything they want to make sure a customer leaves the store happy… convincing them that you are a loyal Apple slave and that it would mean the world to you for a free “swap” and they may just GIVE you a new phone.  It worked for walpaper.
